Hello, I’m Laura, the maker behind Greengill Pottery.
I’m a professional designer by trade, having forged a career in graphic design, illustration, photography and animation over the last 20 years.
I found my way to clay back in the spring of 2024 and discovered it’s just what my creative soul was yearning for. Something more tactile, and focused. Something that would take me back to where I started, drawing with an actual pencil, painting with actual paint. And something that requires me to be more intentional with what I do. You can’t Ctrl+Alt+Delete a piece of clay!
Clay helps me find my centre in a hectic life. I have 2 young children, a husband and a dog, as we well as working as a designer. Pottery offers me a means to switch off and zone out from the world, even for a few hours. Pottery requires concentration, awareness of what your hands and body are doing, focusing your mind on how do you want to shape the clay and what you need to do to do that. It requires effort and commitment to learn a craft, to make something that is functional and will do its job.
Then, beyond the craftsmanship of making, it as given me a means to truly express what I want to say, to make things that evoke memory and connection to the things I love.
